THIS MISSION IS A TEENAGE MISSION. IT IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO CHILDREN WHO STARTED YEAR 7 OR YEAR 8 IN SEPTEMBER 2017. 


This mission is an advanced bushcraft mission for teens who are looking to further their Hunter Gatherer skills. The projects are demanding and will stretch campers who are eager to channel their inner Ray Mears! Over 5 days, you will be taught how to master eight complex bushcraft skills by completing some pretty exciting challenges.

1.     Carving your own bow drill
2.     Building a leaf hut
3.     Starting a fire with primitive flint and steel
4.     Making your own atlatl launcher and arrows
5.     Weaving your own paracord sling
6.     Learning all about salmon ponassing
7.     Making your own slingshot
8.     Crafting a survival birch bark match box


This mission is led by Craig Fordham. Craig is an Institute of Outdoor Learning approved bushcraft practitioner, survival instructor, bow drill master and GB archery instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience. Throughout his career, he has learnt from some of the best talents in survival and bushcraft and has led workshops and expeditions all over the UK and abroad, teaching children and adults from all walks of life.

TYPE OF MISSION

RECOMMENDED AGE RANGE
11 - 13 (Years 7 - 8). Because of the nature of this mission and the specific skills and activities involved, it is only suitable for children 11 or older. If you have any question about this or if you are unsure and would like to talk through with us, please free to call or email the team. We'll be very happy to advise.

FACILITATION
Both Lead and Support Facilitators on this type of mission are Bushcraft Professionals with Forest School experience. Parents always receive a full list of facilitators a week of so before the start of camp. We operate an overall ratio of 1:8 in our camps. All facilitators are DBS and reference checked; all undergo The Hive in-house safeguarding training. Sites include several fully qualified First Aiders.

MISSION DURATION 
Five day mission with the flexibility to book as little as 2 days or as much as 5 days. If you are only booking 2 days, we suggest choosing the beginning of the week to help the children truly experience the developing project. 

DAILY TIMES
The mission runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Extended care is also available from 8.30am to 6pm - an additional charge applies.
